PHILADELPHIA, PA − December 10, 2025 −Senator Sharif Street is proud to announce an $875,000 award from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) to support Temple University Hospital’s Wellness and Recovery through Advocacy and Patient Support (WRAPS) Project.
“As a lawmaker representing North Philadelphia, I see firsthand the toll that community violence takes on my constituents. Temple University Hospital has long been on the front lines of this crisis, providing compassionate, comprehensive care to survivors of violent injury. The WRAPS Project strengthens that mission by ensuring survivors receive the medical, emotional, and practical support they need to recover, rebuild, and thrive. I am proud to support this transformative initiative and look forward to the impact it will have on individuals and families across our community.” – Senator Sharif Street
Temple University Hospital (TUH), the region’s busiest Level I Trauma Center, plays a vital role in caring for victims of violent injury in North Philadelphia. TUH operates one of the region’s most comprehensive Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Programs, with trained advocates integrated into the trauma team 24/7. The program provides crisis response, intensive case management, and workforce development services for survivors of violent injury.
The $875,000 PCCD award will expand this lifesaving work through the WRAPS Project, adding three new positions designed to strengthen wraparound support for survivors of gun violence:
- Victim Advocate specializing in spinal cord injury survivors
- Visiting Nurse providing in-home medical care and continuity of treatment
- Trauma Therapist delivering timely, culturally relevant mental health support
These roles will enhance recovery, reduce hospital readmissions, and help survivors stabilize and rebuild their lives.
