HARRISBURG, PA − January 7, 2025 − Patty Kim is bringing her years of legislative experience to the Pennsylvania State Senate, taking the oath of office on January 7, 2025. The former State Representative now serves the lower part of Dauphin County in the 15th Senate District, continuing a decade long commitment to public service that has defined her career.
Senator Kim previously represented Pennsylvania’s 103rd District in the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2024, where she was most recently Chair of the House Insurance Committee and prior was Chair of the Aging and Older Adult Services Committee. She is also credited with creating and serving as the first Chair of the PA Legislative Asian Pacific American Caucus. She has previously served on the Appropriations, Education, Insurance, and Local Government committees.
While in the House of Representatives, Patty led the charge to provide a livable wage for all Pennsylvanians by introducing bills to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Additionally, she authored significant legislation addressing workforce development, education funding reform, and protections for our most vulnerable citizens.
Beyond her legislative assignments, she serves on the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Capital Region. Senator Kim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Boston College and previously served as a broadcast journalist before entering public service. Additionally, Kim was elected to Harrisburg’s City Council where she served two terms. She was elected as council Vice President by her colleagues during her second term.
In her new role as State Senator, Kim will oversee a broader constituency while maintaining her commitment to exceptional and attentive constituent service and through pursuing a legislative agenda that supports working families, creates new opportunities, and grows the district through economic development.
