PITTSBURGH – January 24, 2019 – On Friday, January 25, 2019, Senator Lindsey Williams and Representative Sara Innamorato will co-host a REAL ID Workshop at the Millvale Community Center.

“The REAL ID program has been the source of a lot of questions for everyone,” said Senator Williams. “People want to know if they need one, what documents they will need to apply, how to get those documents, and when this whole process will be happening. Hopefully this event can answer those questions. I also recognize that obtaining the necessary documents is going to be a challenge for some people, and my office wants to do everything that we can to make this transition as easy as possible for everyone.”

REAL ID-compliant licenses will be available beginning in March 2019, but individuals are able to get their required documents pre-certified now. Beginning October 2020, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID-complaint license to fly domestically or enter a federal building or military installation that requires an ID. The following documents are needed to apply for a REAL ID:

  • Proof of identity and lawful status in the United States, such as a certified birth certificate or US passport;
  • An original Social Security Card;
  • Two proofs of Pennsylvania residency, such as an unexpired PA license or ID card, vehicle registration, utility bill, or mortgage/lease document; and
  • Proof of legal name change, date of birth, and/or gender designation change, if applicable.
