Pittsburgh, PA − October 31, 2025 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams issues this statement following Governor Shapiro’s action to keep food on Pennsylvanians’ tables:
“I’m grateful for Governor Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Davis’ executive action today to make sure Pennsylvanians don’t pay the price for Washington’s dysfunction. By declaring a disaster emergency, releasing $5 million in state funding to food banks, and organizing private donations through the SNAP Emergency Relief Fund, the Governor is helping keep food on families’ tables during this federal shutdown.
“Food insecurity in our communities impacts all of us. That’s why I continue to support universal free breakfast and lunch in school and I’m sponsoring the Senate Democrats’ proposal to utilize $62 million from the Rainy Day Fund to help families hit by SNAP cuts. Without SNAP, not only do our neighbors suffer, but our grocery stores and farmers do, too. No one in the richest country in the world should have to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table. It’s important to me that every child, family, and senior in Pennsylvania has the food and dignity they deserve.”
