PHILADELPHIA, October 10, 2018 – Today, Senator Williams will join fellow state Senators Larry Farnese and Sharif Street, Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) officials, and local law enforcement on a tour of “Stop and Go” establishments, also known as nuisance bars.
The issues surrounding these establishments have been plaguing local communities for years, resulting in numerous complaints to the PLCB, law enforcement, and government officials. Unfortunately, little has been done to shut down such establishments that blight the neighborhood.
By meeting the bare minimum of seating and food service requirements, nuisance bars are able to maintain their liquor licenses in spite of several instances of public urination, unruly crowds, public drunkenness, excessive noise, drug use, and frequenting of unaccompanied minors that occur at the establishments.
Five locations that are considered some of the worst in Philadelphia will be part of the tour:
- 416 S. 56th Street, Rainer 516 Inc;
- 241 S. 60th Street, S & K Beers;
- 19 S. 60th Street, Jackie Deli;
- 5747-49 Christian Street, Seng Heng Inc;
- 5956 Chester Avenue, KL Chester Inc.
