February 24, 2025 – Sen. Nick Miller (D-Lehigh/Northampton) announced the Lehigh Valley will receive over two million in funding from the Commonwealth’s Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund to invest in four transportation related projects.

“These investments will bring transformative improvements to transportation and pedestrian infrastructure across the Lehigh Valley,” said Miller. “A key priority of mine has been expanding our region’s trail systems to encourage residents to explore everything the Lehigh Valley has to offer. I have been a steadfast advocate for completing the MLK Trail extension in Allentown, which will unify the city’s trail network. With $1 million secured, we are now in a strong position to make this long-awaited first phase project a reality.”

This funding can be used for various purposes such as the rehabilitation, development, and improvement of transportation assets to the Commonwealth’s communities. Examples include updating streetscape, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, and transit-oriented development.

“Investments like these contribute to a brighter future for our communities,” added Miller.

The projects include:

  • MLK Trail – $1 million to the extension of the trail in Allentown that will connect parks across the city.
  • Hamilton Streetscape Project – $350,000 to the completion of the project along Hamilton Street in Allentown.
  • Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA) Interior Fit-out Renovation of Allentown Transportation Center (ATC) – $350,000 to the modernization of the ATC interior.
  • Curb Ramp Improvements – $430,560 to the curb ramp improvements in Whitehall Township.
