DOYLESTOWN, July 28, 2026 – State Sen. Steve Santarsiero and state Rep. Tim Brennan, both D-Bucks, announced that today, PennDOT began the repaving process for State Street, a highly traveled road in the Doylestown area of central Bucks County.
“State Street is getting the attention it deserves,” said Brennan. “This road has been an ongoing problem since my days on Doylestown Borough Council, so it’s especially nice to welcome these improvements. It has been one of the projects I’ve consistently raised with PennDOT leadership, including during our regular meetings and ride-alongs. I know how important it is to everyone who travels this road regularly and for our merchants. When my office hears from constituents about road issues, State Street has been a frequent concern.”
“State Street has been an irritation for residents and visitors alike that diminishes the vibrant business district of Doylestown Borough so I’m pleased PennDOT has listened to our requests to repave it,” Santarsiero said. “My annual road tour when PennDOT officials can see and feel the condition of our roads, is coming up next month. State Street has been a stop in previous years that Rep. Brennan and I have brought to PennDOT’s attention. I am grateful for the partnership between PECO, PennDOT, Doylestown Borough, and Representative Brennan to find ways to ensure this important project stayed on track. We will continue to advocate that our roads in Bucks County get the care and attention our residents deserve.”
Both lawmakers have been consistently pushing for PennDOT to schedule remediation for State Street since taking office.
The first phase of work will begin the evening of Tuesday, July 28 and continue daily overnight, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., through Friday, July 31.
The work will cover State Street from U.S. 202 (Buckingham Pike) to Ashland Street, and from the Route 11 overpass to Court Street. PennDOT warned drivers traveling through the area overnight to expect lane closures and delays.
State Street between Ashland Street and Court Street will be repaved later, as PECO completes gas main repairs next week on West State Street, followed by East State Street. This work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Aug. 5 with posted road closures from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., continuing for several weeks. PennDOT is expected to complete the repaving for that section of State Street once PECO’s work concludes.
After that, said Brennan, “It will be smooth driving through the heart of Doylestown.”
