Harrisburg, PA − October 16, 2025 − Senator Patty Kim and Representative David Madsen released the following statement on Cleveland Cliffs Closure:
“While deeply disappointing and frustrating, Cleveland Cliffs’ plan to permanently close the Steelton mill in January comes as no surprise. However, our fight for its future is not over.
We are committed, along with the Dauphin County delegation, to engaging our federal, state, local, and private sector partners to pursue every available avenue to Keep the Steel in Steelton – even if that means securing a new owner.
Our immediate priority continues to be supporting the displaced steelworkers and their families as well as the broader Steelton community. At the same time, we are taking strategic action to position the site as an attractive opportunity for potential buyers, including supporting a $7 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) request designed to incentivize private investment.
While we cannot compel a private company to step forward and preserve Steelton’s proud steelmaking heritage, we pledge to leave no stone unturned in our efforts to do so.”
