Senator Maria Collett

Conshohocken, Pa. August 28, 2025 − PA Senator Maria Collett (D-12 Montgomery), Aging & Youth Co-Chair, visited ActiveProtective’s Conshohocken facility this week to meet with creators of the Tango Belt, a wearable device that uses motion-sensor technology to detect a hip-impact fall and deploys air bags to reduce injury. This groundbreaking tech designed for older adults received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in April 2025 and is now available in select regions.

“As a nurse who worked with older adults in long-term care and hospital settings, I’ve seen just how devastating a fall can be for mobility, independence, and well-being,” said Collett. “Southeastern PA is a growing hub for biomedical and tech innovation, and I’m thrilled to have businesses like ActiveProtective creating jobs and real solutions with seniors’ safety and dignity in mind.”

Falls are the number one cause of death from injury among older Americans, and almost 30% of Pennsylvanians age 65 and older have reported a fall in the past 12 months. During clinical trials, the Tango Belt achieved a 91% reduction in fall-induced hip fractures in at-risk older adults.

“We’re incredibly grateful for Senator Collett’s support and advocacy of our mission to enable safer mobility and independence for older adults,” said Wamis Singhatat, CEO at ActiveProtective. “And with PA having the fifth oldest population in the country, we look forward to making the Tango Belt widely available to help Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth.”

Montgomery County residents like Hannah Snyder at Foulkeways at Gwynedd, have had the opportunity to try the TangoBelt during clinical trials. Snyder shared that “having the belt, wearing it in the house and outside made me feel a lot safer and more confident.”
