Pittsburgh, Pa. − July 16, 2026 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams announced that nine local projects have been awarded grant funding through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).
“The projects receiving funding focus on creating and renovating ‘third places’ for people to gather, on supporting our students, and on training our workers and emergency responders,” said Senator Williams. “I am incredibly proud to work with our community partners to support projects that build strength and resilience in our neighborhoods.”
The following projects will receive funding:
- $1.5 million to the Kelly Strayhorn Theater for renovations of their new building into a flexible theater that can be configured for several types of productions. All building systems will be replaced with new, appropriate updates, including insulated windows and a new roof.
- $1.25 million to North Allegheny School District to upgrade systems at the current Aquatics Center and natatorium to extend the life of the existing diving and teaching pool, build a separate diving well, and renovate the current spectator and locker room facilities.
- $700,000 to the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #12 to replace the roof and update parking facilities at their training center in Harmar Township.
- $500,000 to Riverfront 47 in Sharpsburg for continued redevelopment of the industrial waterfront, including earthwork for excavation, grading, soil removal, and utility work. These new public spaces will have recreational amenities, landscaping, and gathering areas designed for community use.
- $500,000 to the National Aviary for construction of their state-of-the-art veterinary hospital at their Rockwell Project in Fox Chapel. This new facility will allow the Aviary to expand their work with species that are a conservation concern and enhance their capacity for research, education, and breeding and reintroduction programs.
- $1.1 million to the Allegheny County Police and Fire Academy to install a new generator and updated electrical infrastructure that can support the entire Academy building in North Park.
- $500,000 to the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation for Phase III of the Negley Rotunda Restoration, which includes upgrades to design, acoustics, lighting, accessibility, and adaptability of the Rotunda. This renovation will create a flexible 500-seat venue with optional balcony seating.
- $400,000 to The Neighborhood Academy to outfit their Innovation Wing, which houses the Middle School for Girls, a STEM Suite, Library Resource Center, and a Learning Staircase. These upgrades include resilient flooring and carpeting, painting, fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, toilet compartments and bath accessories, lockers, whiteboards/tackboards, signage, wall protection, and window treatments.
- $752,120 to the Township of Pine for the construction of a new 120+ plus space parking lot at the Pine Community Center. This additional parking space will support current and planned future expiation of the facility.
- $500,000 to the Union Hotel in Etna for the renovation of three existing buildings to create a mixed-use development of residential and commercial storefronts, as well as an outdoor courtyard area.
RACP funding is awarded to projects that focus on the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. These projects should either increase or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenue, or other measures of economic activity. Additional information can be found here.
