HB 1718 (Aument) – Amends the Public School Code to allow public schools to offer an online education initiative. The bill was reported 7-3.

HB 1424 (Clymer) – Amends the Public School Code providing for Holocaust, genocide and human rights violations instruction.

SB 78 (Greenleaf) – Amends the Higher Education Scholarship Law to allow PHEAA Grants to be available to eligible students wishing to pursue a degree through online (distance) education.  .

SB 606 (Dinniman) – Aamends the Public School Code to provide for the purchase of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for every public instructional school building in Pennsylvania.  This legislation is known as Aidan’s Law.

SB 31 (Fontana) – Amends the Child Protective Services Law to require school employees to report any type of suspected child abuse committed by a school employee against a student.  C This bill is part of an 18 bill package resulting from recommendations made by the Task Force on Child Protection.

SB 34 (Smucker) – Amends the Professional Educator Discipline Act to make substantive changes, including expanding the jurisdiction of the Professional Standards and Practices Commission, and expanding the bases for discipline and mandatory reporting requirements.

SB 46(Williams)  – Amends the Public School Code to require a more thorough employment history review for prospective employees and independent contractors of school entities for positions involving direct contact with children.

SB 360 (Mensch) – Creates the Pennsylvania Community College Affordability Task Force to study and make recommendations on community college funding, services, affordability and accessibility. This bill was unanimously amended and reported out unanimously.
