Philadelphia, December 12, 2018 – Today, State Senator Art Haywood (D-Montgomery/Philadelphia) joined State Senator Vincent Hughes (D- Montgomery/Philadelphia), activists, advocates, and community organizations for a roundtable discussion on the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

“Until housing discrimination becomes a crime, every incident should be filed as a complaint to Housing and Urban Development,” Senator Haywood said. “We must make them pay.”

The roundtable discussion took place at the ACHIEVEability Community Services Office on 59 N. 60th Street from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Community Legal Services of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Fair Housing Rights Center of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and more were a part of the conversation to provide insight on what their organizations do to combat housing discrimination in 2018.

“We want to do more than just start the conversation,” Senator Hughes said. “There are people doing great work in Philadelphia and across the state to ensure residents can get the housing they need without any barriers. We have to continue to support those groups and support their mission of equity.”

The organizations present also discussed the Fair Housing Act on a national level, how it community education around fair housing, and calls to action to further ensure housing security in the Commonwealth.
