HARRISBURG, October 15, 2018 – Senator Vincent Hughes (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) and Representative Peter Schweyer (D-Lehigh) continue to push for state-level protections to prevent insurance companies from denying coverage based on preexisting conditions.

The legislators will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. Oct. 16 in the Capitol Media Center to discuss bills to protect health insurance for people with preexisting conditions. Sen. Hughes introduced Senate Bill 958 and Rep. Schweyer introduced HB 2552 to protect those individuals.

Federal lawmakers and the Trump Administration have signaled a desire to strip Affordable Care Act provisions that protect those with preexisting conditions. Sen. Hughes and Rep. Schweyer’s proposals would amend the state Insurance Company Law to prohibit health insurance companies from denying or excluding coverage based on an individual’s preexisting medical conditions.

Other elected officials may be in attendance.
