HARRISBURG, November 16, 2018 — Sen. Art Haywood (D-Montgomery/Philadelphia) released the following statement in connection with the passage of HB2060 that disarms Protection from Abuse (PFA) violators.
“I want to congratulate the advocates, legislators, and Governor Wolf that supported the passage of this bill to protect victims of domestic violence from further abuse,” Sen. Haywood said. “Consistent statewide advocates were heard in Harrisburg. We have taken a significant step to get guns out of the hands of dangerous people.”
Sen. Haywood values citizen advocacy to get legislators to change their minds. Another example of this was the advocacy mothers showed for medicinal marijuana for their children’s ailments and their tireless efforts to demand assistance for their children.
“Change requires meetings with legislators, an organization that can support the cause, public support across the state. The students of Parkland, FL did a tremendous job to rally for gun law reform. Let the advocacy of Parkland, Medicinal Marijuana, and Moms Demand Action be an example to all who wish to see change in the Commonwealth. There will be more victories ahead for PA with this approach.”
