Harrisburg, April 4, 2018 – Sen. John Sabatina (D-Philadelphia) announced apprenticeship grant funding has been approved for a variety of services and associations in his district.

“These grants will continue to help individuals in our area receive the job training and skills needed to obtain good paying, family-sustaining jobs,” said Sabatina.

The following companies were the recipients of apprenticeship and capacity building grants:

  • JEVS Human Services – $99,956.60 pre-apprenticeship/apprenticeship grant and $49,996 building capacity grant
  • International Association of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 19 – $62,000 pre-apprenticeship/apprenticeship grant and $45,495 capacity building grant
  • Philadelphia Carpenters JATC – $50,000 capacity building grant
  • Finishing Trades Institute – $80,000 pre-apprenticeship/apprenticeship grant

Sabatina applauded the diversity of the programs awarded grants in Philadelphia, stating that funding a wide range of job training programs makes it possible to continue growing workforce opportunities in the area.

“As the job market continues to change, funding a variety of apprenticeship programs ensures that more individuals are given the opportunity to find entry into the workforce.”

The pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship grants will help registered apprenticeship providers and organizations improve and expand their job training programs. Grants awarded for capacity building will be used to assist businesses, industry associations, career and technical centers, and other providers with the development of infrastructure necessary to provide apprenticeship programs.

There were 28 pre-apprenticeship/apprenticeship grants and 33 capacity building grants awarded statewide by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry through Local Workforce Development Boards (LWDBS).
