HARRISBURG – June 27, 2019 – Today, Pennsylvania State Senator Pam Iovino released the following statement on the passage of the state’s budget:

“I voted in support of the state budget because the package moves Pennsylvania forward and makes vital investments in key priorities such as school and community safety initiatives, PreK-12, higher and special education, career and technical training, senior health and wellness, and workforce development, which are all extremely important to the 37th Senatorial District. We acted with fiscal prudence, making a significant investment in our Commonwealth’s rainy day fund, and adding no new taxes on our families.

I will be the first to acknowledge that this budget is not perfect. Our working families, seniors, and small businesses are all doing their part, but I remain dissatisfied that corporations are not paying their fair share in taxes. Opportunities were missed in this budget to provide more support to working Pennsylvanians, to better protect our environment, and to make a bold investment in our infrastructure. I was sent to Harrisburg to deliver for the residents of the 37th Senatorial District, and that requires compromise and working in a bipartisan fashion to responsibly operate our state government. While imperfect, this year’s budget achieves that fundamental goal.

I leave this budget process with an even sharper focus and determination on how to best serve and advocate for the working families and communities of the 37th District.”
