ROYERSFORD − September 4, 2024 − State Sen. Katie Muth (D-Chester/Montgomery/Berks) today announced that Atglen Public Library was one of 13 libraries across Pennsylvania to be awarded funding through the Excellent and Equitable Youth Services Library Grant program.
The $5,000 grant, announced earlier today by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), will be used to purchase fiction and nonfiction books for children and youth in the community.
“This grant funding is such great news for Atglen Public Library and really for our young learners in Atglen Borough and surrounding communities who will now have access to a more expansive catalog of books to help them learn, explore, and dream big,” Muth said. “Every child in Pennsylvania deserves access to a vast and diverse collection of books – and I am grateful that this grant funding will impact residents and learners here in Chester County.”
The grants, which are federally funded through the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by PDE, help libraries build inclusive collections for youth.
Atglen Public Library was also one of the libraries across Senate District 44 that received grant funding to establish a collection of decodable books using funding through the American Rescue Plan Act. The decodable book grant secured by Senator Muth in November 2022 also included training and professional development opportunities on decodable book collections for librarians and community members.
