HARRISBURG, PA  – August 23, 2019 – State Senator Daylin Leach (D-Montgomery/Delaware) today issued the following statement regarding the Mariner East Pipeline following Governor Wolf’s Thursday visit to a part of the pipeline route:

“Hearing from the impacted residents at the Mariner East Pipeline construction site has reaffirmed that I can no longer support fracking in Pennsylvania,” Leach said. “I used to believe that we should push for stronger regulations, while passing a severance tax, so we can fund worthwhile initiatives. However, I have learned that I was wrong. The money is just not worth the environmental impact or the danger it poses to the residents of the Commonwealth. We should enact a complete ban on fracking and its infrastructure. I am renewing my demand to halt the Mariner East Pipeline construction.  I also call on my colleagues to join me in rejecting fracking and opposing  Governor Wolf’s pro fracking legislation. We should no longer try to play the odds and hope for the best when the stakes are so high. It’s time to stop fracking in Pennsylvania.”

Senator Daylin Leach represents the 17th Senatorial District, which includes parts of Montgomery County and Delaware County. For more information visit www.senatorleach.com/newsroom.
